NON-SUFFICIENT FUNDS

Must be paid via certified funds(i.e. cash, certified check or money order)

You will be notified by letter that your payment was returned unpaid by the bank.  This does not necessarily mean that you had insufficient funds, they are non-sufficient, meaning that if you paid online and typed a wrong bank account number or routing number the same letter will be provided to you. The amount due will also include a $25 administrative charge for the returned payment.

Property Tax NON-SUFFICIENT FUNDS:

  1. If you received a letter saying that your transaction failed to clear the bank from which it was drawn, your property tax payment is cancelled and is now delinquent.  For an estimate of interest amounts now owed, please contact the Customer Service Division at 402-444-7103.
  2. Please mail your payment to 1819 Farnam Street, Suite H-03, Omaha, NE  68183 or go to any of the Douglas County Treasurer’s Customer Service Center (CSC). Take this letter to the CSC or mail it in with your payment.

  1. When making your payment, please do so in the form of guaranteed funds such as cash, cashier’s check or money order. No personal check, debit or credit card will be accepted. You CANNOT pay online for this transaction.  Remember to include the $25 returned payment fee as well.
  2. The Douglas County Attorney’s office may be notified for collection and/or prosecution pursuant to Neb. Rev. State Statute § 28-611.

Motor Vehicle NON-SUFFICIENT FUNDS:

  1. You will be notified by letter that your payment was returned unpaid by the bank.  This does not always mean that you had insufficient funds, they are non-sufficient, meaning that if you paid online and typed a wrong bank account number or routing number the same letter will be provided to you.
  2. With MV NON-SUFFICIENT FUNDS letters, you will have 7 days to pay from the date of the letter or your registration will be cancelled. Neb. Rev. Stat. §60-3,222 provides for the cancellation of a registration if the proper payment is not made within seven days of the notice. Payment must be made via certified funds (i.e. cash, certified check or money order).
  3. The Douglas County Attorney’s office may be notified for collection and/or prosecution pursuant to Neb. Rev. State Statute § 28-611.
  4. Additionally, if the registration is cancelled and the City of Omaha Wheel Tax applies to that registration, a $25 Wheel Tax late fee assessed by the City of Omaha will be added at the time of reinstatement, if not already paid in the original transaction total.  Current proof of insurance will also need to be presented if the registration has been cancelled.
