If you choose to have a specialty plate, you must complete an Application for Specialty Plates. The specialty plates are limited to passenger, commercial (10 ton or less), motorcycles, farm trucks, cabin trailers and self-propelled mobile homes.
Your message can contain a maximum of seven characters. If the message plate is a motorcycle, a maximum of six characters may be used. The eighth position provided is to be used for a space; this space cannot be used for a character.
Before you submit an application for a Message, Husker Spirit Message or Husker Spirit Numeric plate, please be sure that you have a Nebraska Certificate of Title in your name for the vehicle. If you are leasing the vehicle, a title in the name of the leasing company is required.
In the space provided on the application, please list your message choices in the order of preference. The first available choice will be processed.

The Douglas County Treasurer's Office does not process applications for specialty plates. This is a function of the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles.
Once your application has been received, approved and processed, you will receive notification from Lincoln. This notification letter will indicate which message choices was available and assigned to you. The letter will include the approximate date the plate will be available for pick up at the Douglas County Treasurer's Office. Call 402.444.7103 to let us know which Customer Service Center to deliver your plates to. Plates can not be picked up at the Downtown location.
